The mistake we see most: The entry point matters more in Laos than almost anywhere else. The eVisa works at the main airports and major crossings, but not at every small border post. Tell us where you're crossing before you pay.
Check first: you may be able to get this on arrival instead. Having it before you fly avoids the queue and the cash desk, but we will tell you honestly which suits your trip — ask us before you pay.
Laos visa — common questions
How long is the Laos eVisa valid?
It's valid for 60 days from the day it's issued, and lets you stay up to 30 days from the day you enter. So you can apply well ahead of a trip.
Can I use it at a land border from Thailand or Vietnam?
At the main international crossings, yes — but not at every small border post. Tell us exactly where you're crossing and we'll confirm before you pay.
Can I extend my stay in Laos?
A tourist stay can usually be extended through an immigration office in Vientiane or Luang Prabang. We'll tell you what's involved if you ask.
Which documents do you need?
Passport scan, a photograph, your flight or onward travel booking and your accommodation details.
How long is the turnaround?
Usually three to five working days. We recommend applying at least a week before you travel.
